Bella Luna Wedding Photography in Jamaica Plain

A peek at an amazing wedding last weekend at Jamaica Plain's very own Bella Luna. The last event I photographed there was the adoption party/wedding at Bella Luna five years ago.

This weekend's bride killed it in a red dress.  Emphasizing the color and joy of this October wedding, we took some portraits along Center Street.  Pizza and beer.  Cupcakes and champagne. A little Newly Weds game show live set. Loved this whole wedding!

More to come as I climb out of the editing weeds this month. jamaica plain wedding at bella luna red dress

Settlers Crossing Lunenberg Ma Wedding

Loving this image of a gentle kiss after the first look on the golf course!

It's nearly fall!  And though we've been cruising into it with some of that beautiful late summer weather, it means that it's wedding season at Ars Magna.  For whatever reasons, I've always had more wedding in the fall than any other season.  Do my client prefer the cooler weather? Do they love autumn colors?  Do they just want to have one long party all fall into winter? Whatever the reason, I do love fall weddings where the air is a bit more crisp and the light is warm and the shadows long.

Sharing a few of my first blush favorites from last weekend's wedding at Settler's Crossing in Lunenberg, Mass.  We were all there in July for their Lunenberg engagement photos. It was the perfect early September Day.  Sunny and not too hot.  A soft breeze and lots of warm hugs.

Glen Magna Farms Wedding Photography

Oh my goodness, where do I start! Absolutely amazing, cried all over again! I don’t know how you do it.

HOW WE connected

I photographed the groom’s sister’s Boston City Hall Wedding years ago - and then again the groom’s cousin’s wedding at Willowdale Estate a few years later.
Last fall, for their Boston engagement portraits, we hiked into the woods together.  Katie and Mike are so at ease with each other, and so comfortable, they are always a joy to spend time with and to photograph.

GLEN MAGNA FARMS WEDDING

The estate is gorgeous and the wedding these two planned fit perfectly into the beauty and design of the grounds.

Now it was Mike’s turn, who married his high school sweetheart, Katie, at the beautiful Glen Magna Farms, an historic estate just north of Boston in Danvers. The estate and it’s grounds transport you to a grand past, and you can imagine walking the carriage road as a perfect beginning to a storied romance. All in all, it was an elegant garden party, unfussy and easy which slowly grew into the all out dance party I was expecting.

FIRST LOOK

The Beech tree at Glen Magna was chosen for the location of the first look.  Mike stood under the branches, waiting for Katie to walk up.  Emotions ran high and were contagious.  We did the first look under the beech tree and then walked through the estate, the gardens and the carriage road - which is a beautiful location to take the always classic walking together portraits.

OUTDOOR CEREMONY AT GLEN MAGNA FARMS

One of my favorite things about this wedding was witnessing the bride as she watched from her room in the mansion as her friends and family walked across the lawn and were seated for the ceremony.

Shades of fall (sangria, aubergine, grape) made up the row of bridesmaids’ dresses. The groom and his groomsmen held it down and dapper in traditional black tuxes.
The ceremony was a fairly formal (if you include laughter) and they were celebrating at a historic landmark.  But it was a casual one, outside in the garden.  And the garden was the perfect setting to walk down the aisle with her father.

WEDDING RECEPTION AT GLEN MAGNA FARMS

Some weddings you know are going to unwind into crazy dance parties.  Having met most of the groom’s family before - I knew this was the case.  And they did not disappoint.  I already knew how much I loved the groom’s family - and the bride’s side was as warm and wonderful and full of love.

Congratulations to Mr. & Mrs!  It was an epic day of friends and family, smiles and hugs that ended with beats and beads (of sweat) on the dance floor.  It's the kind of day I love to witness. The kind of day I an honored to be a part of documenting.  The kind of day that reinforces a beautiful love story.

Boston Nature Center Wedding Photography

Noah and Pamela were married last fall in a bilingual and bicultural wedding at the Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary.  Though they live out of state, they returned to Noah’s hometown to celebrate their union.

I first met Noah when he was a groomsman at Ivan and Melissa’s Cambridge Multicultural Center a few years ago.  And, as connections in our little city of Boston often do, I discovered he was childhood friends with the man who would eventually become my partner.  The past several years, I’ve come to know and love his family and I was honored to be a photographic witness to their Boston wedding.

BOSTON NATURE CENTER AND WILDLIFE SANCTUARY

The Environmental Conservation Center at the Boston Nature Center and Wildlife Sanctuary

After their guest list grew too large to for the backyard wedding they originally planned, they chose the grounds of the Boston Nature Center, a community urban sanctuary right here in the city.  They made use of the outside garden for their ceremony, the patio for the reception and the sprawling lawn for the dance party.  The Boston Nature Center is a great option for a green building in the city, that supports environmental education.

As part of their inclusive and multicultural ceremony, the couple included the traditional breaking of glass at the conclusion of the ceremony.

BRIDE AND GROOM PORTRAITS

The bride wore a long summery white gown with a lace shrug and a pink ribbon sash. Her hair, in loose curls was topped with a gorgeous crown of pink roses.  The groom wore a white shirt and brown linen pant with sandals.  Natural textures and colors were perfect for their outdoor ceremony surrounded by nature and family.

After the family portraits and before the reception, I walked with Noah and Pamela through the grounds to make some portraits.  It was a warm afternoon, and everything was drenched in sunlight.  We hit a few of the trails before winding back to the party.

OUTDOOR PATIO RECEPTION

This wedding, and the love it represented, was deeply felt by everyone. Neither tears, nor laughter were held in reserve.  It was a day to express oneself deeply and to connect by sharing words of love.  Parents, mentors and friends toasted the couple and shared reminisces of the journeys that led them to each other.

Part of the Boston Nature Center’s mission is to create a sense of connection, and this celebration truly did that.  Pam and Noah have already welcomed their beautiful daughter into their family, before I even got this blog post up.  Looking forward to a trip south to meet her one day soon.

Larz Anderson Auto Museum Wedding Details

What happens when the bride is an fantastic event coordinator? She hires an amazing team and trusts us all to do our jobs.  Here's a few details from a beautiful May wedding at the Larz Anderson Auto Museum in Brookline.  The sky was blue, the sun was shining even if the wind kicked up a bit as the evening went on.

Rob at Max Ultimate Food handled all the coordination - and the food, which was as incredible as it looks. It was a true bicultural celebration incorporating the groom's Indian heritage with the bride's Italian. The spread was incredible - all vegetarian and some of the best wedding food I've had the pleasure of tasting.

Chamberlain Farm Wedding Photography

All of the things.  This wedding had all of the things. Love, joy, bollywood flash mobs. Making memories and magic. N and J, the morning after the sangeet, gathered together with their friends and family at Chamberlain Farms in Berkely.  A gorgeous venue, and the first time for me at this family has owned farm sitting pretty on it's little cranberry bog.

The wedding ceremony was held outside on the garden behind the pavillion.  N and J were each walked in by their family, and the ceremony  (a interfaith, secular service that wove in Indian customs) was officiated by a dear friend.  Their brothers stood up for them as their respective best men.

Exit for costume change. N ditched her sari for a suit, J slid a purple tutu under her white dress.

The reception was held in the white tented pavillion.  Centerpieces centered around their collection of amber glass growlers. Elephant cake toppers a little callback to the elephant tablescapes at the sangeet.

Their first dance was a force. Complete with twirls  and flashes of that purple tutu.  Just the usual zero-to-sixty dance party.  Speeches. SO many speeches. And the usual tears and laughter and shivers and hugs that go with heartfelt pourings of love.

Didn't get enough of time to fully explore the corn maze.  But there's always next time.

Many thanks for the sensational Steph Stevens for joining in the magic making.
